Wenn Du zuviel Distortion oder ähnliches drinne hast, dann hörst Du (meines Erachtens) auch keinen so erheblichen Unterschied...
Wähl mal den Steg-PU aus, der sollte mit Tone-Poti auf 10 recht bissig klingen, und das sollte mit Tone-Poti auf 0 doch weit dumpfer klingen. Wie gesagt, nicht zu viel Zerre, i.d.R. sollte man das auch Clean hören...
