Was bedeutet dieser engl, Text?

Zur Zeit übe ich den Song \"Hold on\" von Tom Waits.

Bei englischen Texten (und nicht nur da) möchte ich gerne wissen, was ich da singe.
Jetzt habe ich aber in der 1. Strophe Probleme mit der Bedeutung der Textzeile:
\"If you live it up, you wont live it down\".

Der Rest des Textes ist mir klar. Ich hoffe, ihr könnt mir helfen.

Hier der Text der 1. Strophe und des Refrains:
