Das bedeutet wohl 'klassisches Melodiespiel mit gegriffenem Bass'.
Das heisst, das sowohl die Melodielinien als auch der zugrunde liegende Basston gleichzeitig gegriffen werden sollen.

Für deine aus England stammende bekannte würde ich das folgendermassen übersetzen: "Play the classical melody including the corresponding bass note according to the context". Als Erklärung: "Involve the bass note, e.g. if you play a melody in the key of C major, do include the Note C as Bass note. A Bass Note of C may be picked at the A string on the third fret."
