Ich denke, beides zeitgleich zu lernen ist günstiger. So kannst du das trockene lernen der Tonleitern am Anfang mit ein paar (meines Erachtens) schneller erlernbaren Akkorden abwechseln und siehst schnellere Erfolge indem du einige Liedchen trällern kannst.

Solltest du dich aber zum klassischen Stil hingezogen fühlen - tja, dann - Melodiespiel - sofort und ohne Gnade.
