WMV ist ein Windows-spezifisches, proprietäres Format, welches evtl. sogar DRM-geschützt ist.
Für Linux gibt es das Tool \"transcode\" welches wmv nach avi oder mpeg oder was auch immer wandelt.
Zur Not einfach mit Kaffeine abspielen und \"Stream speichern\" aktivieren. Dann wird der blanke Video/Audiostream ohne den Container abgespeichert und kann weiterverwndet werden um z.B. eine Video-CD/DVD zu erstellen.
Für Windows ist mir kein solches Tool bekannt, aber evtl. kann dir die Microsoft-Community weiterhelfen.
